Chickens for Refugees

Refugee camps are generally under funded and over crowded - lacking adequate food, shelter, security, sanitation and medicine. My personal challenge was to create a sustainable, extensible plan to help refugees feed themselves and lift themselves from poverty.

There are about 2.5 million refugees in Afghanistan. We made contact with a volunteer program coordinator in Kabul and selected a refugee camp in northern Kabul for a trial. The plan was to provide chickens, chicken coop wire and chicken feed to the poorest 20 families. Test and learn, then go big.

I worked an after school job at Truckee Love to raise funds for the refugee project and my parents matched me dollar for dollar.  The trial has been a success as we now have over 600 chickens producing 100s of eggs daily.  We're addressing malnourishment for the kids as they're eating eggs each morning. And the adults are selling the eggs on the streets of Kabul to earn  money for their families.

Based upon my learnings in the trial, I want to expand to other refugee camps in the area. But I need your help in raising the funds to do this.  Please consider supporting this project to make a difference in their lives.  I appreciate any help you can provide.
