I AM PROUD TO BE TSILHQOT'IN-Chilcotin!

Ɂabenaneŝ gweẑlin-Good Morning.

Sid Jill Setah sets’edinh-they call me Jill Setah.

Sid Yunesit'in xaghiyah-I am from the Yunesit'in Government.
  • Yunesit'in, also known as 'Stone' or 'Stoney', and by the original place-name 'Gex Nats'inilht'ih', is a reference to where rabbits were hunted. Yunesit'in is one of the six communities that comprise the Tsilhqot'in Nation. A majority of the population speaks the original language, nenqayni chi. Yunesit'in is located approximately 105 km West of Williams Lake, and 8 km South of Hanceville. The Yunesit'in Caretaker Area stretches as far as the Fraser River to the East, Taseko Lakes (Dasiqox) to the West, Chilcotin River (Tsilhqox) to the North, and Graveyard Valley to the South. The culture embraces Tsilhqot'in values and the identity in the land is expressed through central activities including horses, fishing, hunting, and gathering.

SeɁaba beghuzi Louis August an.-My dad is Louis August.

mom was Norah Setah.

Jill Setah is a mother of four beautiful Tsilhqot'in/syilx children, and is traditionally married to her husband Randy Weatherbee a member of the Okanagan Indian Band. Jill Setah was born in Oliver, BC Canadain in February to Residential School Survivors Norah Setah (Xinli) deceased from the Yunesit’in Government, and Father Louis August of Neskonlith Indian Band of Chase, BC. Jill Setah is 1 of 6 children.

My journey to reconnect to my culture began as a young teen girl when my childhood best friend introduced me to the pow-wow trial and lent me one of her jingle dresses to dance for the weekend. I could remember how powerful and proud I was to be able to dance and hear the heartbeat of the drum. Growing up with not one but two residential school survivor parents was hard at times. It seems not long ago that it was illegal to practice traditional pow-wows. This is what leads me to want to share my culture with other nationalities. My spirit is most happy when I am bringing my visions to life and to have that chance to see my visions walk down the runway is so truly amazing!

Jill’s love for fashion started when her son needed a junior boys grass dance regila for an upcoming pow-wow in Penticton, BC. This is when Jill’s eye for detail came into place from viewing other regila’s and creating one from memory. Jill had handsewn her son’s first junior boys grass dance regila. The joy it brought me to see my son dance on the pow-wow trial and to know I made his outfit was a blessing!

I am fundraising money to attend Night at the Museum: Guided Glamour Charity Gala at the Natural History Museum in the UK. I was invited to be a featured designer during their fashion show at the Gala. It is extremely important to me to attend to share my Indigenous culture through fashion.

The funds raised will go towards, flight, hotel, taxi, and food.
