Grasp the concept:
Chabad: Studio for Jewish Life and Art is a place where Judaism and art fuse together in an educational and welcoming setting. A place where everyone feels encouraged to explore, experience, and delve deeper into their Jewish heritage in a friendly and artistic way.
Meet the team:
Australian born, Rabbi Shmuel has been involved in art ever since he was a child with the encouragement of the Lubavitcher Rebbe who saw art as a medium in which to serve G-d. Rivka has lived in the Hudson valley for most of her life and sees her culinary talents and creativity as a way to share, enrich, and bring flavor to the community, especially at the holidays and around the Shabbos table. Together they seek to use their talents to make this studio a very vibrant place.
About the Chabad Studio:
Discover a new flourishing art-driven Chabad concept set to open in Spring 2022. The area's deep connection to art as well as the need for Jewish education and community create the perfect platform and opportunity for this to manifest into a reality!
The vision for a Chabad Studio for Jewish Life and Art may finally have the chance to come to life in one of the Hudson Valley’s most up and coming cities, Newburgh, NY, as a gift to the Lubavitcher Rebbe on his 120th birthday.
Why an “art studio” and not an “art gallery”?:
A gallery is a place to see, but a studio is a place to create. We want people to go beyond observation, and have a more impactful, hands-on experience that allows them to utilize art as a form of self and spiritual development. Think of it as a “soul workout,” a place to go to when you want to exercise your soul, uncover truths and lingering questions about yourself and about Judaism through a variety of group and solo art projects and exhibitions in an open and welcoming environment.
Rabbi Shmuel’s words to the donors:
The Rebbe encouraged art as a method of exploring one's everlasting connection to G-d in an ever-changing world, and the studio will allow visitors to do just that! Help be a part of this gift to the Lubavitcher Rebbe by bringing this concept, that will be created in his honor, to life. This is an amazing opportunity to reach groups of people who would not have the opportunity to learn about or discover Judaism due to their location or without the welcoming and approachable method of art as a tool. At Chabad’s Studio for Jewish Life and Art, we will have the ability to offer a hub of inspiration and celebration of Judaism through the arts for people all around New York and the tri-state area.
“One additional act of goodness and kindness can transform the world and bring moshiach!”
