Cerebral Palsy Scotland

As you may know, my eldest son Alec has cerebral palsy. He has received brilliant support from Cerebral Palsy Scotland over the years. What you may not know, far less believe, is that I turn 50 this year. So in celebration of that I am going to run round the mighty peaks that surround my beloved Girvan on Saturday 12 August. It's about 10 miles covering all the famous hills: Saugh, Doune, Troweir, Laggan, Byne, Fell and Grey. Anyway it will be a bit of a shift so if you can chuck a few pounds in Cerebral Palsy Scotland's direction that would be much appreciated.

UPDATE - 3 August 2023

Thanks again to everyone who donated to Cerebral Palsy Scotland. This has raised much more than I expected it to.

Saugh Hill

Through one thing and another I had to bring the run forward, so I did it last week. My excuse for not updating this sooner is that I have been too knackered ever since. It turned out to be a bit tougher than I thought. Partly down to some navigational issues it ended up being 14.1miles with 2500 feet of ascent. All covered in a plodding 4 hours 43 minutes. The video of me below running towards Dad and Alec was a ‘sprint’ and a huge increase in the speed I had been going at for the last few miles. God knows how slow I must have looked before that. (It looks l cannot upload videos to this, so you will just have to imagine me running slowly!).

Anyway I did enjoy it. The weather was great. The highlights being the harebells on the Saugh Hill, getting electrocuted on Troweir Hill, chased by coos and watching a kestrel hunting below me on Piedmont Hill, getting harassed by gulls on the Byne Hill (by that point I was too tired to look up to see what kind they were), running along a path through the heather on the Grey Hill and being “bloodened” as Jamie would say, by barbed wire in the field at Shalloch Mill.

Thanks to the support team of Anna, Alec, Jamie and Dad.

Thanks again.
