It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Douglas 'Papa Doug' LaVerne Sr. on August 8, 2025, at the age of 81. Born and raised in Hayward, Doug was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose love for his family knew no bounds.

A hardworking man, Doug spent 50 years in the automotive industry, retiring from GILLIG after 29 years. He loved bingo nights, lottery tickets, trips to the casino, and cheering for the 49ers and his beloved Oakland A’s. His warm smile, quick wit, and generous heart touched everyone who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Jane LaVerne, and is survived by his children, Wendy Vasquez, Douglas Laverne Jr., Monica Gutierrez, Frances Lopez, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who will carry his memory in their hearts forever.
