Uguanda Volunteer Internship

Hello Friends and Family! 

I am so excited to announce to you all that I am going to Jinja, Uganda this fall!  I have applied for, and accepted, an unpaid internship at a Family Preservation Center called Abide Family Center. I will leave September 3rd, 2014 and come back December 3rd, 2014.

Abide Family Center is a government non-profit organization that is committed to keeping children out of orphanages and in their families. In Uganda, families living in severe poverty are often referred to orphanages when they can no longer support their children.  Right now, there are approximately 40,000 children in Ugandan orphanages. It is estimated that 4 out of 5 children in those orphanages have a family that loves them, but didn't think they had another option. Abide Family Center provides another option for families to stay together through emergency housing, parenting and business classes, sponsorship, and early childhood education. I am overjoyed to share with you that I will be a part of this wonderful organization through teaching in the early childhood center. The early childhood infant, toddler, and preschool care is free for families. It provides a safe, nurturing environment for children to thrive when their parents and caregivers are working in their business classes or new jobs. 

The total cost of my trip will be close to $4,000. The costs include the cost of the internship (which helps the center run), airfare, medical costs, and all school and donation materials I will be bringing with me. 

I know I could not make this trip without the love and support of you all. I am so encouraged by each and every one of you!
