Save Catmosphere Cat Cafe Sydney

Following the Australian government's address in regards to "non-essential" businesses, Catmosphere  has had no choice but to close our doors during the lockdowns impacting Greater Sydney.

We felt the impact of COVID-19 hard and immediately, and while we have been unable to open, we still have our same ongoing expenses.

While I have been part of Catmosphere in some capacity since it opened, it wasn't until January 2018 when Ed and I took it over and made it the family-run business it is today. After over a decade of rescuing and rehoming dogs and cats —often at a huge personal expense— Catmosphere was an opportunity for us to reach so many more people and save even more lives. We put in our life savings to elevate the cafe and dedicated every waking moment to ensuring it would thrive.

We gathered a small, compassionate team with a high work ethic to be guardians of the cats and kittens, and look after every person that walked through our doors.

And since then, this little cat cafe went from strength to strength. Each month was better than the last and there had never been more people connecting with cats, meaning we were able to adopt out so many more than we had before. This year should have been the year where we wouldn't have needed to put so much in personally.

And then coronavirus hit.

With our doors closed, our ability to generate income was severely impacted. We still have rent, bills, the ongoing care of our cats and kittens, and our team to look out for. Bookings made up about 95% of that income, so you can imagine how hard this crisis has hit us.

We were able to apply for the small grants available to local businesses but these were few and far between and would only cover a very small portion of our expenses. During the second lockdown in 2021, we received even less support from the government, but still liable for all outgoings as per normal.

Truthfully, we hadn't yet recovered fully from the first lockdown. Although businesses were able to open again, other regulations remained, and we still had to backpay many outstanding expenses, making it harder and harder for us to get back to a sustainable position. As a light at the end of the tunnel began to appear, we were put into another lockdown.

The money we are looking to raise is to cover outstanding bills, expenses, and to help bring our team back together so we can keep moving Catmosphere forward as a place for people and cats to connect.

For those who have followed Catmosphere for a while, you'll know that our entire team has put everything into this little cafe; financially and emotionally. Cats have always been our number one passion and we have dedicated almost every waking moment to caring and advocating for them.

There is no other place like Catmosphere in Sydney. A space where you can chill with the cats and forget everything about the outside world or pile-on with the kittens and laugh your worries away, all the while knowing the money you have paid for the experience is going towards caring for cats and kittens that may otherwise have had no options in life.

So now we ask for the community's support to keep on doing what we do; rescuing and rehoming cats and kittens and connecting people with these amazing animals in a safe, welcoming, kind space that is so rare to find in this crazy world.

Please note: Catmosphere is a small, family-run business. While the work we do is charitable at its core, we are not a charity, and don't have deductible gift recipient status.
