Casola For Cancer

Donation protected
It is with many tears and broken hearts that our son and brother, Julian Casola, born July 13, 1997, can now rest in peace.  At 10:10am on December 2nd, 2019 at the Palliative Care Unit of the Cité de la Santé Hospital  Julian bravely ended his battle with cancer which lasted almost 4 years. Julian remained dedicated to his family and in the will to fight his illness until the end.

He was surrounded by his courageous loving family, mother Victoria Tanelli, father Antonino Casola and sister Veronica Casola who were alongside him for every step of the fight.

Services will be held between 14h-17h and 19h-22h on Friday December 6th, 2019, with a mass at 2030h Alfred Dallaire Memoria, 2159 Boul Saint-Martin Est, Laval, QC H7E 4X6.

The family would appreciate flowers not be sent to the service but would appreciate that 1 single white rose (a symbol of love and hope) be brought to the service and placed to rest alongside Julian.

Julian is loved by all his friends and family including his grandparents Raimondo and Concetta Casola, Giuseppe and Maria Tanelli, cousins Raymond Casola, Sophia Casola, Jacob Casola, Massimo Casola, Luca Casola, Lucy Tanelli, Hudson Tanelli, Uncles and Aunts Vito Casola and Rosa Fiorito, Michael Casola and Anne-Marie Arcuri, Antonio Tanelli, Joe Tanelli and Kristen Guptill.

In June 2016, my brother Julian, 18 at the time, was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer known as Rhabdomyosarcoma.  It is a very aggressive form of cancer that forms in the muscles and is nasty. The cancer presented itself in the form of a tumor on his forearm that grew extremely fast.  The wonderful team of doctors at the McGill University Health Center (MUHC) in Montreal decided that immediate treatment was needed and an operation would not be possible.

He started Chemotherapy in July of 2016, just before his 18th birthday and it was a crazy ride from there.  Over a 46 week period Julian had 40 chemo treatments and 6 weeks of daily radiation sessions. Basically my brother lived in the hospital visiting it about 4 times per week and an uncountable number of MRIs, X-rays, PET scans, and a ridiculous amount of blood drawn from his system.  Over the 46 weeks he experienced excruciating pain, complete hair loss, weight gain, muscle loss, and overall depression.

On May 20, 2017, my brother gladly rang the bell of success signifying the completion of his chemotherapy   He continued to be monitored by a team of doctors at the MUHC, with MRIs and blood work every few weeks.   His remission celebration was cut short in early 2019 when a tumor was discovered on his pancreas.

Upon further investigation and following a biopsy, it was concluded that the same cancer had returned and was now attacking his pancreas.  On May 10, 2019, Julian had a massive surgery, that lasted about 8 hours, where ¾ of his pancreas and his entire spleen was removed. The surgery was successful however additional cancer spots were detected in his body.

The doctors recommended another 40 chemotherapy treatments, but Julian refused to be put through that torture again. My brother, my family and I got to enjoy a great summer with several pool parties and family get togethers. In September, Julian’s cancer began to take over his body and life for my family stopped.

November 22 at 6pm, was the turning point when two medical technicians loaded my big brother into an ambulance and now begins his final journey at a palliative care center.  He is receiving an ungodly amount of morphine for pain.  Even though his unspeakable pain he manages a few words.  His favorites are Thankyou and I love you.

My name is Veronica Casola and I love my big brother and will miss him. I want to help as many people and their families who are affected with this mean disease.  I want to start a Gofundme to donate to the research of cancer that took my brother.

Thanks
