Our Story:
Ten years ago my sweet, independent, charismatic mother was diagnosed with Cancer. It was found due to an auto immune disorder that completley robbed her of her career and her independence. She fought long and hard and luckily came out a winner. Although still severly disabled, she has never lost her beautiful smile or will to fight. She had 10 years in remission and we are so grateful for that.
Then last Fall, she fell ill and ended up in the hospital again. After many tests, we found the Fallopian tube cancer had returned. This time around has not been so easy... She began this journey with a year of oral chemo. Which seemed easy at first, compared to traditional chemo, but had her waking every two hours all night, every night to use the bathroom. It was a rough year for both her and my father. At the end of the year, when the tests came back, we found the tumor actually grew. We were all devastated, but pulled ourselves together and in typical "Battle" fashion we kept on fighting. Next came intervaneous Avastin treatments. (Which are unbelievably expensive per treatment) At the end of these treatments we got more bad news...The tumor grew a little more.
My mom ready for chemo treatment number two.
So now the doctors have decided she needs something much stronger, intervaneous Chemo and Avastin treatments together. Needless to say, this is going to be her biggest fight yet. Besides the side effects from the treatments, she will lose her hair again. My father will continue to care for her without asking for help, as he has done for many years now. And we are all praying for a miracle, that this will shrink the tumor.
As everyone knows medical bills can be paralyzing. They start to pile up and before you know it you are faced with the impossible. Well after talking to my dad today, for the first time he admitted that the bills just keep coming. He is worried how he will pay them since her treatment is not complete. We are only halfway there. So against his wishes I decided to take the matter into my own hands,
How you can help:
My hope is that my dad who has taken care of her on his own for 10+ years can continue to do so, without worrying sick how he is going to stay afloat. He is the typical old school Italian and is totally against hand outs. I on the other hand know that together anything is possible. And that we are all stronger as a team.
I have always been the type to give if I can. Especially if the cause is near and dear to my heart. I believe in this platform. I believe in asking for help. If you have the means and can donate any amount, it will make this journey a little less frightening. If not, prayers are just as valuable. Either way thank you in advance for reading our story.
How the funds will be handled:
My father, Richard Battle will be handling the funds directly. We decided it made more sense that way. If you have any questions feel free to reach out to me.
For those of you who want to send a check because you don't feel comfortable making payments online, feel free to do so. Please make it out to Carole Battle and mention "gofund me" in the notes of the check. Please email me for the address. My email is kristen@battleworkshop,com
