Caring for Kami | Part Two

Spende geschützt
Hi Friends!

It’s been almost a year since Kami and I travelled to South Africa so she could meet with a specialist there.  She was diagnosed with Rickettsia and several other auto immune issues.  One of the last things the doctor told us was, “Go away and feel better!”

Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the reality.  I know Kami would love to be writing to you herself with good news, but that’s not where she’s at.  I asked her if I could do a little interview and send it out to her friends and family so you can know how she’s doing and give you an opportunity to help with the next step on her journey.

Rachel :)

A Conversation with Kami

What’s happened since your trip to South Africa last year?  How has your health been?

The doctor in South Africa gave me a treatment plan which includes medication, supplements, and some pretty strict dietary restrictions.  I’ve followed it faithfully.  I’ve actually postponed writing an update because I keep thinking, “any month now I’ll be feeling better”.  I thought I’d  be feeling fine by now, but it’s been ten months and I haven’t seen any improvement.

Apart from your health issues, how are you feeling?

It’s been discouraging.  To be honest, I’m at my wits end.  The doctor said the treatment can take between 8 months and 3 years to to work.  That’s a big part of my life and I would just like to get on living!

Why go back to South Africa?

I feel like God arranged things so well for me to hear about this doctor and to go last year and be diagnosed.  I feel like it’s the right thing for me to go back for tests and hear what she has to say.

What can I do to help?

On a practical level, you can help me get back to South Africa for a  follow up visit, tests, and consultation with the doctor.  I’m still not able to work and disability hasn’t worked out yet, so I can use help financially to get back to South Africa.

And please pray!

- Pray for discernment.  Should I continue with this doctor  Should I find a new doctor?
- Pray for healing!
- Pray for encouragement.  It’s disheartening.  I want to honor God, but that’s hard when I don’t see anything I can be doing.

If anyone has any insight, feel free to share that with me!
