Keeping my Car

My car is three payments behind and the registration is expired.  There's been some financial hardships going on.  When I bought the car, everything seemed like it was going to be easy to deal with, that there wouldn't be any problems like this.  Then my then (now ex) husband lost his job.  Then we separated, but, as I've been unemployed and then a stay-at-home mom for the past 15 year (stay-at-home mom for the past 12), he was still covering the expense of my car.  Even after he got a new job, things were still tight and he made the financial decision, without letting me know, to skip payments for my vehicle.  I only found out when it got so far behind that it became in danger of being repossessed.

On top of that, my registration has expired, and despite promises that it would be dealt with, my car has been out of registration for months, putting me at risk of getting tickets I can't afford.

I've only recently been able to have my own bank accounts again and this needs to be dealt with.  I need to be able to drive so I can get my daughter to and from school & activities.  My boyfriend needs to be able to get to doctor's appointments and to gigs and because he doesn't have his own car, we both depend on mine.
We both need to be able to drive without fear of a ticket so we can get groceries, make it to appointments, and otherwise take care of our family.
