Cameron Needs Us: Cancer, Setbacks, and a Path Forward
Donation protected
Hey friends,
This is Don, a longtime friend of Cameron and Chrissie. We all did theater together in Omaha and I consider them family.
I’m setting this up on behalf of them but primarily for my friend Cameron—a person so many of us know as a talented musician, actor, a fierce friend, a hilarious storyteller, and someone who has always managed to bring light to the room even when carrying more than his share of darkness.
The truth is, Cameron’s been going through it. And not in a “rough patch” kind of way—in the way that would knock most people flat. But if you know him, you know he's not the type to ask for help. That’s why I’m doing it for him.
A Series of Blows
A few years ago, Cam and Chrissie made the tough call to leave their home in Los Angeles. It was supposed to be a fresh start, but it ended up pulling them far from the community and creative energy that gave their lives meaning and joy.
They stuck it out, leaned on each other, and kept going. But then came a series of hits:
Their entire savings account was wiped out by fraud—unnoticed until it was too late due to a perfect storm of travel, mail delays, and bank negligence. Despite a long fight, the money’s still gone.
Cameron was diagnosed with an aggressive form of bladder cancer. It’s non-invasive (thankfully), but chronic. His doctor told him his three-decade career working in bars and clubs is over.
While managing treatment and finances, their daughter moved away suddenly, which took an emotional and physical toll—especially on Chrissie, who’s been a rock through all of this.
And now, as bills pile up and options shrink, they’re trying to make it back to California—where they once had a real sense of home, community, and hope.
They’re not asking for a handout. They’re asking for some breathing room.
Why This Matters
This fundraiser is about giving a good man and his family the space to figure out their next steps. It's about helping them get back to a place—literally and figuratively—where they can begin to rebuild.
If you’ve ever heard Cameron sing, laughed with him until your ribs hurt, or felt seen by him during one of your own storms, I ask you to show up now. Cameron is one of the most loyal friends I've ever had. Him and Chrissie helped me out immensely during my own dark times so you bet I'm going to be there for them and help raise these funds for them.
This isn’t charity—it’s a vote of confidence. It’s saying: We've got your back, buddy.
What the Funds Will Help With
- Short-term rent and living expenses
- Ongoing cancer treatment and medical bills
- Relocation costs to return to California
- Breathing room to explore new work that honors his health and creativity
If you can give—thank you. If you can’t, sharing this or sending love their way means just as much. Let’s help them turn the page on this chapter and start writing a better one.
