Cambodia Education Project

Donation protected
Kids in Cambodia spend an average of only 6 years in school. That’s the equivalent of a primary school education. Imagine only having 6 years of formal education!

Cambodia, unfortunately, has no compulsory education, compared to Australia’s minimum requirement of 11 years.

Why do Australian kids stay in school almost double the amount of time cambodian children do? Cambodians, on average, make 93.95% less money than Australians ($1,400 AUSD annually). Coupled with 12% higher birth rates than Australia there is little money to spend on Cambodian children’s education. Higher birth rates also mean that older children are needed to stay at home and look after their younger siblings while their parents work. This contributes to the mere 73.6% population literacy numbers compared to Australia’s 99%.

Education isn’t free in Cambodia, with a high number of informal school fees deterring poorer students. English is an incredibly valuable language to know, with jobs that provide a more reasonable income favouring Cambodians who can speak English over those who can’t.

Where do I come into the equation? From the 4/2/19 to the 4/3/19 I am volunteering my time  to teach english to Cambodian children aged between 6-14 at a school in Siem Reap (through International volunteer HQ).

Where do your donations go?
-Directly to the volunteer fee (portion of this goes towards the school)
-Writing books & Pencils
-Teaching resources etc.

Please help me make a difference in Cambodian children’s lives by donating money, school materials or even getting involved in my fundraising endeavours! Every little bit counts!
