Cairngorms Expedition - British Exploring Society
Donation protected
Hi All,
I would like to thank you firstly for taking an initial interest in my fundraising mission!
About Me:
My name is Oliver Wright, a current 16 year old GCSE student, hoping to move onto A-Levels in Economics, Business, and Geography. A young individual who hopes to join the Royal Air Force as Aircrew one day, and is actively chasing this dream.
I am fundraising for the British Exploring Society (BES), an authority on transformational youth development through expeditions to remote locations around the globe. Developing individuals leadership, teamwork, and confidence, providing skills that will be useful for employment, an additionally memories that last a lifetime.
Cairngorms Expedition:
I have fortunately been awarded the opportunity to take part in a week expedition in the mountains of Scotland, Cairngorms National Park, this summer! Known for it's stunning summer landscape, however unpredictable climate in the mountainous area, it will prove to be a challenging week, but brilliant time for our team. I am looking forward to our adventure!
We will be wild-camping in the heart of the Scottish Highlands, allowing us an oppurtunity to discover this dramatic and remote environment, whilst learning practical survival skills, navigation and environmental awareness, in a truly wild setting. However, learning more about ourselves in the fragile environment that we will explore, developing our self-esteem, communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, supporting our personal development through constant personal reflection on our strengths and weakness.
Fundraising Challenge - Silverstone Grand Prix 10km Run:
The BES is a registered charity that I intend to raise money in support of my expedition costs e.g. expedition equipment, and also make a donation to the great work that they do empowering and developing young people like myself.
I have been set the 'Belinda Kirk Challenge' to raise a target of £90. I intend to complete the 'Silverstone Grand Prix 10Km Race' on the 6th of May, 2025. The race is one and half laps of the full historic Grand Prix Circuit starting on the Wellington Straight and finishing the run in the iconic pitlane. An area usually buzzing with noise of car engines ready to compete, brought to a momentary silence for this great event. As this expedition is physically arduous, hiking high elevations on uneven terrain, whilst carrying additional kit, a solid foundation of fitness is required to sustain in this changing environment. The challenge, and training, will support me in developing the physical and mental robustness needed, ensuring these aspects do not affect my performance whilst on the expedition.
I do hope you can support me to achieve my target, and support the BES to keep doing such amazing work, that solely rely on donations. Any support is greatly appreciated, and will support the charity and myself to e.g. afford expedition equipment.
Conclusion:
I would greatly appreciate if you could please share my story to friends, families, colleagues, to help support the charity and myself along the journey towards my exciting expedition.
As I am under-18, to align with the GoFundMe policy, my grandmother will act as the beneficiary, receiving all donations.
This is then either used for expedition equipment with the remainder transferred to the British Exploring Society. This is done in order to track each participants total fundraising amount, towards their target (£90).
All donations go towards expedition equipment and the British Exploring Society. I aim to be as open and transparent as possible. I would be more than happy to answer any questions, so please do feel free to contact me.
Thank you for your time and support!
