Help Cokethia and her Family

Tax deductible

This is a fundraising campaign to secure stable housing and transportation for Cokethia Goodman and her children, who were featured in the article “The New American Homeless” in The New Republic magazine. The organizers of this campaign have been in contact with Cokethia, and she is very grateful for the tremendous outpouring of support over the past week.

Article about Cokethia and her Family

Since the article was completed, Cokethia and her family were at last able to move into a small house, but the cost of utilities and rent is proving unsustainable: it's eating up over 90 percent of her monthly income. Also, without a car, it's been very difficult to work and get the children to school. Without assistance, an eviction, and further displacement seems increasingly likely.

The aims of this campaign are to:

1) Raise sufficient funds to relieve the monthly cost burden of the family’s rent and living expenses

2) Purchase a used van that will allow Cokethia to continue working and providing for her children’s needs

The campaign’s goal is $20,000, which will be delivered directly to the Goodman family.

We ask that the family's privacy be respected. All messages to Cokethia will be passed along to her right away
