Support youth and seniors through Chess for Connection

My name is April, and I am a Grade 10 high school student. As a passionate chess player, I started the Chess for Connection program, a youth-run organization dedicated to fostering social interaction and community engagement through the traditional game of chess.

Chess has been shown to be effective in strengthening mental capacity and reducing the chance of dementia. It is also an accessible board game that can be enjoyed by almost anyone, anytime and anywhere. The Chess for Connection program aims to introduce chess to seniors, connect youth and seniors through the same interests, and establish meaningful interactions to alleviate social isolation among residents in senior homes. We provide a variety of supports to make this happen, ranging from playing chess with seniors to giving chess lessons, facilitating a chess club, running tournaments, and organizing fun chess activities.

As a team of chess enthusiasts who want to transform our passion into meaningful impacts in our communities and for our seniors, we are expanding our program to more locations and region. We would be grateful for your generous support that could help us further our mission.

How the funds raised will be used: $600 will be used for purchase equipment, including chess sets, clocks and chess training tools; $1,400 will be used for volunteer training and medical clearance for youth to volunteer at senior homes; $2,000 will cover costs for tournaments and special events.
