Our Sweet and Sassy Presley Mae is scheduled to have open heart surgery on 11/3/2015 at Arkansas Childrens Hospital . She will get to tour ACH and meet the ICU nurses the day before.
Presley has a rare heart defect . She has a large ASD ( Atrial Septial Defect) other wise known as a hole in the upper chambers of the heart. Along with one of her 4 pulmonary veins emptying into the the superior vena cava artery instead of the left atrium.
This defect is one that has to be fixed by creating a patch to reroute blood back to the correct part of her heart and repairing the hole. She is expected to stay in CVICU for 72hrs then another 2-3 days after.
We were told at the age of 3mo that Presley had a heart murmur . We went for 3 different echocardiograms , all told us she had mild Pulomary Stenoisis . So mild that her Cardiologist released back to PCP for care and followup when he retired . It wasn't until her 4yr old checkup that her PCP listened and new something wasn't right. She was misdiagnosed for 4 yrs . Which is not uncommon but still hard to hear .
We are a normal working class family with 4 children . Brooklyn is our oldest she is 11 . Peyton is 8 , Presley is 4 and our youngest is Avery ( AK ) she is 2. I am a Pediatric Nurse and the Pediatric Clinic in Cabot Arkansas . Her dad is a estimator with a restoration company in Conway Arkansas . We have private insurance which will pay 80% of her surgery . This will leave us paying our 20% .
As a parent you never want to here your child needs any kind of surgery. The thought of my baby girl having open heart surgery is terrifying.
