The DopaMIND! Project: Jigsaws for Dementia
Donation protected
I am a high school student and for three years, I have volunteered in a nursing home for seniors with dementia. Over the course of my time there, I have gotten to know these people as family. I have looked after them, played with them, and listened as they shared precious stories of their childhoods. As the years passed, I watched the people I knew pass away and new residents enter the facility. I saw dementia steal the independence and personalities of the seniors I grew to love.
Dementia can be slowed—studies have shown that jigsaw puzzles can reduce the mental decline of dementia patients as well as maintaining dexterity. However, many dementia patients reside far away from their families and their loved ones cannot provide them with the necessary support. I want to buy puzzles for these patients. I want to help them maintain their independence, their dignity, and their sense of life.
Please help me help them by donating to my cause. I am only sixteen and my funds are very limited. Every contribution counts, and I would love nothing more than to be able to provide puzzles to these dementia residents in the Pacific Northwest.
You can also support my mission by buying stickers through KYOODOZ (here!). All profits will go towards donating puzzles to these dementia residents.
