We lost almost everything when the Ranch Fire burned our house on White Rock Canyon Road, just outside of Upper Lake, Calif., where we lived since 1999. I was out of the state when the fire broke out in Potter Valley. Linda was home alone and was evacuated on July 28. She drove away in the pickup with our pets and a few items as the fire was cresting the hill across the creek. We had hopes that the house would remain standing and we would be able to return.
We are embarrassed to ask for help, but sometimes you need to.
Like all of our neighbors we lost just about everything. I started to list things like dishes, paintings, books, musical instruments, appliances, etc., but the list is too great. I can't think of it all. The Ranch Fire took away items and reminders of our history but not our memories. We have each other and the future. At this point we don't know where to begin to start over.
Today the fire is still raging in Lake County.
Thank you for thinking of us.
