What would happen if we didn't have bees? It's not just about honey… growers rely on hives to pollinate foods we all depend on. Loss of bees would dramatically alter food systems.
There are fears entire species may have been lost with 1.25 billion animals perished and 15.6 million acres of bush, forest and parks across Australia burnt. The Apiarists Association have advised it will take from three to 20 years to fully recover from hive and flora loss.
Fires have decimated forests and plants used to make honey. Coastal Manuka has been hit hard with recovery estimated to be a minimum of three-years.
NSW alone produces approximately 48% of all Australian Honey.
