Burgerville Workers Disaster Relief

Donation protected
A week ago, almost all Burgervilles closed due to the wildfires and the hazardous smoke that covered our region. Over the last couple of days many Burgervilles have reopened, despite the air quality remaining unhealthy. While Burgerville covered lost wages for the first three days of closures, since then workers have had to use sick time to make up the losses.  We’re grateful for this, and that workers are given the choice if they want to come in, but it means that now workers are being asked to make an impossible choice between risking their health by breathing in smoke in the drive thru, or staying home and using their sick time during a pandemic—if they have any left.

To support workers in these difficult times the BVWU is fundraising to cover workers' lost wages during store closures, as well as for workers who choose to call out to protect themselves from the hazardous conditions. We are especially fundraising to support workers from the Gladstone Burgerville and their loved ones, who were in close proximity to the fires and face evacuation and other difficult situations. Any funds raised in excess of these purposes will be kept by the BVWU to help workers in future moments of severe hardship.  We are calling on the community to stand with Burgerville workers and show them that the community and the labor movement has their back.

Love and solidarity.
