A number of Bunbury businesses have formed a group to help local man Gus Henderson by building him a patio.
Gus became suddenly ill in June 2017 and after extended hospital stays in 2017 he now lives at home (supported by a range of equipment such as a hospital bed, hoist, motor-wheelchair and commode) with his wife Jeni. They are supported by family, friends and South West Rural Respite Service. These supports have been funded by a previous Go-Fund-Me campaign (closed when it reached the goal) and the funds continue to cover medical and care (paid carers) costs.
Gus cannot get out to the back yard (even in his wheelchair) and it was identified that a patio would be a wonderful thing.
Jeni asked for advice on a local Facebook site regarding the best material and steps to build a patio and locals responded in a remarkable demonstration of community support. Within hours a team had formed of skilled tradesmen will to work together to make a patio a reality and Bunbury Backyard Blitz was born!
This Go-Fund-Me page aims to provide the funds needed to complete the patio and will be used to purchase materials, pay for the required building permits and conduct other work needed to make a durable, safe, weatherproof and sturdy patio accessible by wheelchair.
