Building homes in India
Beschermde donatie
I am 16 years old and I suffer from Anxiety and Depression. For the past two years mental illness has controlled my life. I have been unable to complete most of my schooling this year, due to the fact that I am often too anxious or depressed to leave the house. At some points of my life I have felt so hopeless, like there is nothing to live for. After many months of traditional therapy, medication and hospital visits I have decided that it is time to tackle this illness head on through non-traditional methods. One area that I have identified is Charity Work that will take me out of my comfort zone and help me with my own soul searching.
This summer I have the opportunity to go on a Habitat for Humanity international trip with my mom. My mom has done these trips many times and always comes back feeling energized, grateful and inspired. On this trip to India, we will be travelling with 13 others to a city called Bangalore, for 11 days. We will spend the majority of the time on the work site doing essential construction activities such as digging a foundation, laying bricks, mixing cement and constructing a bathroom. We will also have the opportunity to visit a local High School and interact with other kids there. Almost 25% of the population in India live in extreme poverty. Although I will only be helping a small number of these people, I will just as importantly be helping my self. I hope the joy that I can bring to others will start to bring me the joy I have been lacking.
I am asking for your support in raising $20,000. This will help cover my mandatory donations to Habitat for Humanity as well as very expensive travel costs, food, hotels, etc. I will also being giving 10% of the proceeds to Youthdale in Toronto, Canada. This is an organization that provides Mental Health services to troubled children and their families. My mom recently accessed their crisis line when I hit a very low point. I am confident that, in helping myself, I will also be helping marginalized families in India and other youth that struggle with Mental Health illness.
Any and all contributions will be greatly appreciated and put to good use.
