Building a well for Abdi Sharif
They say the sum of the soul are the stories that pour out in one's passing. To some, Abdi was the social butterfly and the glue of a thousand connections. To others the quiet boy in the corner who simply enjoyed watching the office for the seventh time going and still laughing as though it was his first. To those that knew him best, Abdi was a fighter. Abdi was born with single ventricle congenital heart disease, a condition that affects less than 5 newborns out of every 100,000, and blessed with a heart the world will never see once more. Despite a further diagnosis of epilepsy during his late teens, Abdi was the most courageous, fierce, kind hearted, intrinsically funny soul I was blessed to call a friend, and a brother. He never allowed anyone to look at him differently, or treat him less, he would run just as fast, jump just as high and laugh just as loud as anyone else.
In order to honor the man and aid his family during the toughest test of their lives, we will be collecting funds for the following purposes:
We aim to build a fully functioning well in Africa
To facilitate struggling orphanages with food, educational books and tools.
To help cover funeral costs for the family
All remaining donations will be used entirely for a foundation we will be launching under Abdi’s name, to inspire and support children with similar conditions.
The reasons we have highlighted these specific charitable ventures are islamically one that can provide charity in their passing (the well) will receive blessings far past their last day on Earth. We specifically chose to focus on helping the spread of knowledge through facilitating the orphanage as Abdi was the greatest seeker of knowledge always aiming to better and educate himself every single day, through his usual random fun facts or through his love of history.
