Assalamu alaikum my dear brothers and sisters,
This is my first go fundme project which I initiated upon recently going back to the motherland for the first time 20+ years since my parents immigrated. During my time there I already had a sense of expectations through YouTube videos, documentaries or what my relatives would tell me but as we all know nothing compares to what you see in person.
I spent my time with family, experiencing the culture, food and sightseeing one of the 88 island, yes 88 islands. Its a very natural rich country with a lot of potential in the tourism industry. Most people wouldn't even hear about it let alone see it. Unfortunately like many countries in Africa the people are the ones doing the governments job, mostly the young people.
The country is divided into many ethnic groups hence its diversity in languages where 45% are Muslim, 22 % Christian and the rest follow other cultural traditions.
During my stay I quickly became acquainted to the area, local shops, market and especially the local masjid where myself and my siblings would attend. As you enter the masjid you cant help but to notice the humility and the humbleness in everyone despite the terrible conditions the masjid is in.
As you can see from photos, it urgently needs to be renovated urgently, or even rebuilt. Not only a great sentimental value to myself due to the location where my dad reverted to Islam, its one of the first masjids built in the capital city in the 1950s.
Our vision is to completely rebuild the masjid with space to pray in the ground floor and an additional level solely for education. There are many local qualified teachers who are just waiting for opportunities like these where the whole community would benefit from.
All the funds will go towards renovation of the masjid or if possible completely rebuilding it. We already have professional local engineers, architects and contractors to start on this project. As you can see there is a lot of land to really take advantage of.
Myself, my brothers and the local community of Belem urge any support to make this project a reality In Sha Allah.
