Help Us Stop Turning Dogs Away — Build a Lifeline for Portland’s Street Dogs
The walls are already standing. The windows are ready.
Now we just need help finishing the safe medical space that will change the future for street dogs in Portland, Jamaica.
Every week, we get messages about injured, abandoned, and starving dogs needing help.
And too often, our answer has to be the one we never want to give:
“We’re so sorry… we don’t have space.”
At PortlandPups.ja, we have already saved, spayed, and rehomed so many incredible dogs. We have watched scared street puppies become beloved family members, and sick, forgotten animals get a second chance at life. But behind every success story are the ones that haunt us — the dogs we had to walk away from because we simply didn’t have the facilities or resources to take them in.
We are trying to change that.
We are building a rescue clinic that will allow us to help the dogs we currently cannot save.
The structure has already begun. The main floor walls are standing, and the windows have been purchased. This space will become a dedicated surgical and medical clinic where we can perform spays and neuters, provide urgent care, and treat injured dogs safely and properly.
But construction has reached the point where we cannot move forward without help.
We urgently need funding to:
• Build the roof so the clinic can finally become functional
• Complete the upper level, which will serve as a sleeping and long-term recovery space for dogs healing from injury or surgery
• Install secure fencing so dogs can safely go outside without risk from other animals on the property
Right now, many dogs recover on borrowed time and limited space. Some must return to the streets before they are fully healed because we have nowhere safe to keep them longer.
This clinic will change everything.
It will mean:
• More spays and neuters to prevent endless suffering before it starts
• Safe, sterile surgeries and proper recovery time
• A place for injured dogs needing weeks — not days — to heal
• Temporary refuge for dogs awaiting adoption abroad
• A safe landing place for the dumped puppies we find far too often
This building represents hope — not just for one dog, but for hundreds of future lives.
We are so close. The walls are already up. Now we just need the community to help us finish what we started.
If you have ever believed that every animal deserves a chance, this is your moment to help create that chance.
And if we are fortunate enough to raise funds beyond what is needed to complete the clinic, every additional dollar will go directly toward spaying and neutering more dogs — preventing suffering before it begins and reducing the number of animals born into hardship on the streets.
Every donation brings us closer to opening doors that will save lives every single day.
Please help us stop turning dogs away.
