Bucksport Feed-Our-Friends
Donation protected
Friends and Neighbors,
We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to each of you for the generous donations this fund has received over the past week.
We opened this fund with no more than a one sentence plea "Please help us feed our neighbors during the pandemic".
We offered no plan, no details on who would manage the money, how the funds would be disbursed or who would qualify.
Still, the money poured in. In a little over a week, Bucksport's "Feed Our Friends" campaign has raised $2,875, more than half of the original $5,000 goal.
So, thank you for your generosity, and thank you for your trust.
Belatedly, here's the plan:
All funds donated to this site will be turned over to Bucksport Community Concerns, our town's food pantry. This volunteer non-profit organization has many years of experience distributing food and clothing to Bucksport families in need. In addition to groceries, BCC will have the option to hand out vouchers for prepared meals, redeemable at participating local restaurants. We will also provide window decals to identify participating restaurants.
We felt this would be the simplest, fastest and most efficient way to connect our generous donors with the families they are trying to assist.
Bucksport Community Concerns is an IRS 501c3 organization. All contributions are tax deductible.
In addition to all of you who have donated, who will donate to our Feed-Our-Friends fund, we want to thank these folks for their help in setting this up:
Brook Minner of Bucksport's Main Street organization designed our logo and voucher card.
The Delbridge family, Banner City Graphics, gave us window stickers to identify participating stores and restaurants.
Rich Rotella, Bucksport's community development director helped us get organized.
Terri Doty, executive director of the Bucksport Bay Area Chamber of Commerce volunteered to distribute vouchers.
There have been no administrative costs to this program. All incidental expenses have been covered by us or donated. Go Fund Me charges 2.9% plus $.30 per transaction.
We will leave this site up and continue to accept donations via MacLeod's Restaurant facebook page for now. BCC may start a new Go Fund Me site via their own facebook page. If that happens, we will post a notice here. We will also continuously post news about our progress here.
