Brooklyn's service dog Newsome

Hello my name is Sharon Chambers and I am a single mother of five girls, my oldest two are my biological and my youngest three were adopted during our 10 years of doing foster care. My youngest, Brooklyn, was born addicted to meth and opiates, therefore she has struggled more than others. Weekly she currently goes to Speech therapy, Occupational therapy as well as Vision therapy.  She has recently started Hippo therapy (horse riding in therapeutic ways ).  

Brooklyn is a fighter, at eight she is in the second grade and she is thriving at the moment. With her issues and her love for animals we are looking into getting a service dog for her. We have met a dog that seems to be a perfect fit for her. His name is Newsom and comes from a long line of service and therapy dogs.  The following is from Brooklyn’s occupational therapist, she states her needs better than I do.

Brooklyn was born with prenatal drug exposure and was adopted by her loving foster mom, Sharon (who gave me permission to make this post ). Due to her “hidden disability,” Brooklyn requires additional assistance to make sound judgements, produce appropriate emotional responses, and engage as a neurotypical 8 year old girl would. Luckily, Sharon and Brooklyn recently met a service dog named Newsom who is the perfect match for this sweet girl. These dogs serve as safety supports, sensory and emotional regulation assistants, as well as allow their caretaker to function at a more independent level. 

With your help and donations, Brooklyn and Newsome can train and become the perfect team. As a single mother I try my best to provide for all of my girls, but have learned through the years that sometimes you need to ask for help.
