Brooklyn Heights Community for Black Lives Matter

Donation protected
This GoFundMe is organized by five Packer Alumni and is not affiliated with the school. This is a way for the Brooklyn Heights community, especially non-Black allies, to support the Black Lives Matter movement. Packer students helped raise $20,000 for Harry’s (our local deli)  in two days - let’s match that! The Brooklyn Heights community’s donations will be split between the five organizations listed below. Please read the organizations’ descriptions and visit their websites to understand why they are crucial to fund. Let’s turn our words into action and invest in Black futures.

How to help
- Try to match or raise the donation you made to the Harry’s GoFundMe or contribute whatever you can to this page
- Share this GoFundMe on your social media or via email
- Send this GoFundMe to your parents and your parents friends
- Email [email redacted] if you are interested in matching a portion of these donations to double our impact (more info will be provided shortly)

Bed-Stuy Strong

This is a mutual aid network of over 3,000 Bed-Stuy residents who are supporting their community during the COVID-19 crisis. It crowdsources donations to provide no-contact grocery deliveries for vulnerable communities. It is volunteer run and uses 100% of their donations to provide food and supplies. In their first week of operation, they supplied groceries for over 3,500 people and provided approximately 70,000 meals. 85% of the residents they serve are elderly, immunocompromised, or disabled.

Communities United for Police Reform

This organization is working to end discriminatory policing in New York City and reduce police spending and expansion. Communities United for Police Reform has outlined in detail its proposed restructuring of New York City’s spending budget so that funds are directed away from the NYPD and towards other community safety efforts. It focuses on removing police from schools, removing abusive officers from payroll, lobbying in Albany to hold police officers accountable, and reducing unnecessary arrests for non-criminal offenses.

National Bail Out Collective: Black Mama’s Bail Out + Emergency Release Fund

The National Bail Out Collective is a Black-led and Black-centered collective of abolitionist organizers, lawyers, and activists building a community-based movement to end systems of pretrial detention and ultimately mass incarceration. Its organizers have been directly impacted by this issue. It also provides fellowship and employment opportunities for those they bail out to support their growth and create a national community of leaders who have experienced incarceration. The Black Mama’s Bail Out branch bails out Black mothers and caregivers, while the Emergency Release Fund ensures no trans person at risk in New York City jails remains in detention before trial.

How the funds will be distributed:

Once we reach our goal, all of the donations we receive will be withdrawn into one of our organizers' accounts. From there, the money will be distributed between the five organizations. We will post the email receipts from each organization as an update on this page and on our instagram account as proof of donation. GoFundMe only lets you link one organization to your fundraising page, so this is the most effective way of distributing the donations across all five organizations. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out [email redacted].
