Hi,
My name is Treena Cheveldayoff, I am Brody's mom. Brody has multiple conditions, including Tourettes, Autism, Developmental Delay, OCD and a connective tissue disorder called Ehlers-danlos 7A. It is a one in a million disorder, with intensive implications on his body.
Brody is facing one surgery, and the potential for a 2nd we will know shortly. I will update when that decision is made. Brody had surgery on Oct 2 2024, for a pilonidal cyst and sinus tract. Normal recovery is around 6 weeks. For Brody it has been 7 months. His body does not produce normal levels of collagen, making his recovery much more difficult.
Months of nursing care, and the tract has ruptured 3 times since January. I am now doing the care as it is 3 to 5 times per day, and there is no way homecare can do it. There is not enough of them to keep up with that.
On May 19th, 2025 we went to City Hospital, for a different reason. We all believed Brody had a bolt coming out of the extensive hardware in his leg. Pictures attached. This is the complex work of a very special surgeon in Toronto. Brody has a team of surgeons, and an anaesthesiologist that to this day are involved in his care.
The xrays showed that no hardware had moved, thankfully. But, he has a lump on his shin that is rock hard. It has to be surgically removed, with an extensive recovery to follow. We do not know what the hard lump is, and it must be biopsied.
Brody and I have gone through a great deal in his life. His medical conditions contribute to extensive issues.
He unfortunately has osteoarthritis, which normally does not set in until 50. Brody has it moderate to severe. This is another effect of his connective tissue disorder. The ER doc warned, he can fracture easily. You will see a broken piece in his leg, he does not know how that happened. It will be dealt with in surgery as well.
We are asking for help to cover living expenses temporarily. We will be applying for help from organizations like Kinsmen and/or Lions Club.
In the meantime, we do need help getting through, as I am home with him 24 hours a day. Recovery is 1 year for his leg, and will be difficult.
Brody is also facing a potential corrective surgery for his pilonidal sinus tract. This would take priority, as it would mean a high risk of sepsis if it ruptured. Over the last number of months, many nurses said, he's feeling gas come up between his cheeks. He's not. It is coming from a tract that is being examined for connection to the colon. If that is there, which symptoms are showing, it will take priority. It is also a very difficult recovery as his body produces 50% of the normal collagen levels. That makes it even more difficult to recover.
We ask for help in the temporary while we get applications in for longer term help. I am continuing, as able, to sell cedar goods and plants.
The funds will be used to cover living expenses, bills, food, any medical supplies/prescriptions not covered where necessary.
I am growing food in our home, which as it comes along, will decrease vegetable cost year round to make an impact on our budget, and have healthy food in the house all the time.
Brody is a special kid, with a heart of gold. He won the Kindness Award for his High School - that led to meeting Corey Hart. Brody has faced medical challenges his entire life. I've worked as much as possible, but it has become overwhelming now. We truly need help to get through this. It would mean the world to both of us if you considered helping us through temporarily.
If you can't donate, please share.
Updates will be given regularly. As soon as we know more, it will be posted.
Thanks so much
