Brittany's Family Needs Our Help

Beschermde donatie
My name is Joy Olea and I have created this account for my Aunt and her children.

On Wednesday October 7, 2015 my Aunt Teresa's oldest daughter Brittany passed away at the age of 28. Brittany is survived by her mother Teresa, her father Danny, her sister Kristin, and her brother DJ, along with all of us, her extended family. This was a tragic loss for our family and I am hopeful once I give you some background, you will feel moved to help their family. My Aunt did not want to ask for help, but I told her sometimes there are things we just have to do.

You see, Brittany was born with a catastrophic form of epilepsy, called Lennox Gastaut Syndrome. She also had cerebral palsy, was developmentally delayed and was on the Autism Spectrum. Since the age of 5, Brittany began having seizures. From that moment on, her life  as well as her family’s, was changed forever. There were many challenges: trips to the hospital, sleepless nights, countless medications, and of course heartache. Many of us might possibly understand the complexities of living with one of these afflictions; however most of us cannot imagine living with all of them. My cousin Brittany was given a life expectancy of 15 years old. She lived to the young age of 28. I attribute her living to this age to the outstanding care her mother and father provided for Brittany. Their daily normal was something most of us couldn’t even begin to fathom.

Brittany’s daily life was a simple but happy one. Some of her favorite things to do were: coloring, playing with her puzzles, watching Home Alone, The Little Mermaid, and The Wizard of Oz. I cannot even begin to tell you how many times she watched each of these movies. It didn’t take much to make her happy. Even though she had all these afflictions, it was apparent that her soul was kind, loving, and truly innocent.

You see when you have a disabled family member, certain sacrifices must be made. My Aunt unselfishly made the decision to take care of Brittany rather than have her in the care of a group home or in the hands of strangers. As a result, my Aunt’s career was taking care of Brittany and giving her the love and support of family. Now that Brittany has passed, there will be no more income for my Aunt. Not only has she endured the loss of her child, but she has, for lack of a better description, lost her job as well. This was my Aunt's only source of income.

We all know how expensive it is to provide a memorial service when someone passes. Their family needs help with this, as well as help providing some sort of income until she can find a new job. If what I have told you has moved you, and you feel so inclined, any and all donations would be graciously accepted.

My family and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
