Bring Tomas Home

On July 29th, 2018 our good friend Tomas Lopez was arrested for a DUI. Upon bailing himself out of jail he was picked up by ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) and detained in a holding center in Battle Creek, MI. Once he was detained his employers hired an attorney to get us through the first of the hearings in Detroit at the federal building. We found out that he wasn’t eligible for bond, but was eligible to appeal the removal from the United States. Our friend being removed means he would be sent to Mexico where he hasn’t lived in over 22 years. As an immigrant our friend came to the USA as a child. He has grown up in Ludington, MI with friends and family. As an adult he works as a Sous Chef at a wonderful fine dining restaurant downtown supporting himself and his family. 

With that being said, we are in need of funding for a new attorney who is familiar with appeals regarding removal from the US. Also, getting in contact with DACA and making sure all court costs are taken care of along with helping his mom as much as we can. 

Tomas is loved by so many and we truly would hate to see him have to start over in a country he is not too familiar with. As a friend, family, past employers, teachers, colleagues we are asking for your help. We aren’t asking for a lot ($15,000 is an estimated amount). Every little bit helps and is greatly appreciated!!
