Bring Richard Funky Carter home

Donation protected
As we are about to close this fundraiser down we would like to offer a final huge thank you to all of you that donated. Together we have acheived a fantastic total on behalf of Funky's family. In particular this has removed an impossible and unachievable burden from his mother - collectively we have helped to bring her son home and to give him a proper funeral in his hometown of Kidderminster. At this point we are unsure of the exact funeral date, however, if you'd like to attend the funeral, or would like any more information about the fund, please contact Funky's brother - Paul Carter - +44 7968 913214. Thanks again - much love!

Thanyou to everyone who has contributed and for your generosity, The full cost of repatriation and his funeral will be around £8000 Your support with this has taken a huge financial burden from his family at this difficult time. His family are so grateful and overwhelmed by your support.

As many of you will already know our dear friend and colleague - Richard “Funky” Carter – died suddenly, in Cyprus, last Friday 27th October. His death was sudden and unexpected, provisionally a heart attack that happened having just arrived in Cyprus, where he was travelling for work. He was young – he would have been 50 on the 22nd of December and was looking forward to his birthday as he always did.

He has left his two children Noah and Pippa, his sister Emma and brother Paul and his Mum Jane. Everyone is devastated and this fundraising is on their behalf to help with the high cost of repatriation.

Many of you will also have known Funky, either as a friend, or as a long standing IRATA Assessor and Instructor. He had many good friends and colleagues all over the world and he valued you all. Of course, you don’t get an enduring nickname like Funky without being a bit unusual - as many of you will know, an evening with Funky was normally quite memorable!

Over the last couple of years he made his home in the climbers’ gardens of Geyikbayirii. The local climber community there is a fantastic group of people and he had many great friends there. He was welcomed as a member of their community and he really valued that. He certainly had a full, interesting and adventurous life, which is perhaps all that any of us can hope for.

In order to assist with the unexpected and considerable repatriation and funeral costs suddenly visited upon his mother we are making a funding request in his name. Please give if you can and if you cannot then please leave a memory or message for his mother, children and siblings. Thank you in advance.
