In New York, nearly 300,000 people are homeless. Of those people, only 100,000 people use homeless shelters.
Why?
Homeless shelters are often dirty, dangerous, and overcrowded, which repulses many homeless people from seeking refuge at shelters. Additionally, shelters that lack cleanliness don't offer a space to help homeless people get back onto their feet, hence this only provides a short-term solution to homelessness.
We're seeking to provide a long-term solution.
Shelter Shine aims to clean and renovate homeless shelters to incentivize more homeless people to use them to be able to get back on their feet in order to seek jobs and other opportunities that can help end the cycle of homelessness.
Why should you help? Countless times, we have walked past homeless people, and feel as though we cannot help them enough. By donating or volunteering with Shelter Shine, you will be helping create a long-term solution to homelessness, and that homeless person you see might have an opportunity to rebuild their life through your help.
For our service project, we will be going to a Covenant House shelter, a non-profit that focuses on helping rebuild the lives of homeless people, and repainting their shelter to create a more hospitable environment for homeless people. In order to fulfill this project, we need funding for paints and painting supplies. Please consider donating to help us reach our goal. All proceeds will go directly to funding for painting supplies, and extra money will go to Covenant House. Any donations count!
Thank you so much for your support!
