I am Brad Dassey, half brother of Brendan Dassey of Making A Murderer. Thank you for taking the time in reading my legal matter regarding Barb and Manitowoc County, Wisconsin.
This whole thing started because of Brendan's mom, Barb trying to place an order of protection against me and stating some lies in her filing.
I started a Go Fund Me because more than 10 supporters from all around the World have motivated me to start one for lawyer fees to help fight this Manitowoc County Case that is pending on June 10th, 2021. Barb who you all know is Brendan's mother, has been trying to silence me for the past 6 years with regards to ANYTHING I've ever done to support my brother, even nothing but positive and loving gestures. I've even tried raising gas money for our dad, Pete and she was upset about it. I don't understand why everything seems to bother that woman, but she's not a team player and hasn't been all this time.
Barb is at it again with Manitowoc County, stating I was putting her life in danger and also was seeking out a TRO or Temporary Restraining Order against me. The filing she had submitted stated that she was fearing for her and her family's safety. I honestly have no reason to harm anyone and I have zero reason to lie. I honestly don't know why she would lie in a court filing stating this information however, it's her way of trying to silence me once again.
The Temporary Order was served on me April 19th, 2021 and our official court date was May 3rd, 2021, which the court commissioner stated, Barb had zero proof to show burden that the Restraining Order should be granted. Barb's restraining order was denied, no restraining order was placed upon me.
April 21st, 2021, (and this is even where the Manitowoc County Sheriff and the DA's Office stated) this is a gray area between 1st amendment freedom of speech and borderline harassment.
Barb, court commissioner Luke and I spoke about SEVERAL social media posts, even including vulgar ones I have made. I have honestly swore before the court, my honest testimony that I was expressing my 1st amendment freedom of speech rights, which the court agreed.
April 21st, 2021 Barb and her husband Scott had made a phone call to the Manitowoc Sheriff because of a social media post via Facebook that Barb didn't like. It stated that I thought she only cared about money and she lies, among other things. I firmly believe, since I did NOT contact Barb directly, nor make threats or even advise anyone to harass her or her family, that I am and was fully protected under my 1st amendment freedom of speech rights. Manitowoc is now trying to come after me to tell me that I "knowingly violated the TRO" and that is their pending charge against me. I have spoken to lawyers about this matter and they believe they can fully get this case dismissed. The Sheriff had every chance to arrest me after such post was made before Barb's phone call to the Sheriff and they chose NOT to arrest me because of freedom of speech grounds.
I am trying to raise money for my new lawyer as it's going to cost $3,000 retainer fee as he is also charging hourly at $225 per hour. My court date is June 10th, 2021 in Manitowoc County.
I believe I have not violated the Temporary Restraining Order for the facts of the matter are:
1. I have used Barb's first name only, no last name given.
2. I was stating my personal opinion about one, Barb and her lying about me.
3. I made ZERO threats directly or indirectly to Barb or through 3rd party.
4. I am protected under my 1st Amendment freedom of speech constitutional rights.
I believe my 1st amendment freedom of speech rights are trying to be violated by Barb and also by Manitowoc County, so I am trying to raise money for my new lawyer to get this case thrown out. I don't believe Barb should have filed a Harassment, Restraining / Order of Protection against me in the first place simply because I have made ZERO threats to her and or her family. I am not a harmful person. This is simply her new tactic of trying to silence and shut me up.
All in all, I just want a normal life. I am fighting for the TRUTH. I am fighting regardless of what it takes and I find it strange that in court this past Monday, she was trying to desperately make up with me and start over and put "all this behind us." One minute you state in a Temporary Restraining Order that you are fearing for you and your family's safety and the next minute, you want to be friends? I don't get that.
The truth is, I have stated ZERO false statements. I LIVED these experiences I have spoken freely about, only to paint a true color picture of who that woman TRULY is, because she thinks she's fooling society.
I am a struggling single father of 2 pre-teens who are 11 and almost 13, their mother has nothing to do with them in their life and it's been an incredibly tough journey to deal with. My children live with me full time as I have full custody. I cook, I work, I clean I do EVERYTHING by myself. I appreciate any help.
