Vote Joe Boykin for County Council

Dear Friends,

After 27 years of faithful and honorable public service I arrived at retirement in 2015.  I had never envisioned a political future, but became involved in the political process when our family and neighbors were about to be permanently impacted by a zoning change that would have adversely affected our community and way of life on rural Johns Island.  We prevailed in our particular case, but did not stop there.  Knowing that our neighbors in other communities could also be impacted, we successfully pursued a change in the law that barred this type of zoning change from ever happening again.  I have always possessed a deep affection for the lowcountry of South Carolina and for the people who call it home.  There are great challenges facing Charleston County at present and as never before there is a critical need for leadership and stewardship in responding to these challenges. With the incredible  growth in the number of new families making the greater Charleston area their home it has caused a dramatic rise in development and a nearly unsustainable strain on our limited resources and infrastructure.  I was approached to serve by members of our constituency and after careful reflection and study have decided to give my all in the pursuit of this civic duty.  I believe anyone who seeks public office should possess integrity and earnestness, making himself or herself both accessible and accountable to their constituents.

I have never in my adult life ever had to ask for money or financial aid from family and friends, yet now I do.  Unfortunately serving in public office is not free and has become more expensive than ever.  I need your help if I am to run an effective campaign in order to be elected to County Council.  I will have challengers in the primary to be held in June and the general election in November ( if I am successful in June).  Campaign expenses will likely be in the tens of thousands of dollars in order to pay for mass mailings, newspaper ads and campaign signs.  I will only attempt to raise those funds necessary to win this race.

* The maximum contribution allowed by law is $1,000.00 per person per election cycle, but any amount you can contribute will be graciously received and appreciated.

** I also cannot accept anonymous donations and if received they must be remitted to The Children's Trust Fund within seven days.

I will file for office on March 16, 2018 and will be campaigning immediately so funding will be timely.  You can expect and be assured that I will expend your generous donations judiciously and efficiently.  I will pledge to work hard and diligently in this campaign, which will require a lot of walking and knocking on doors.

Thank you so very much for your support.

Regards,

Joe Boykin
