Boy Scout Troop 140

As some of you know we had an unfortunate accident this summer with our troop trailer but most importantly no one was injured. We were very lucky that the contents of the trailer were not damaged but the trailer structure was damaged. The trailer is 17 years old and for the cost of the repairs we are better off just buying a new trailer.

We had unplanned expenses (rental van, towing, storage unit, etc) and our troop bank account took a hit. With the money we owe and the cost of the new trailer we have to do something now to get a cash flow and money for the new trailer.

We had a sub committee who researched and then made a proposal to the troop committee and we all agreed on a new trailer. The cost would be about $4000.00 (with roof vent, adjustable hitch, lettering & discounts).

The Troop committee has heard from many of our parents on fundraising ideas and we are acting on the suggestions. But the trailer we want is available now, we have to return the loaner trailer, we have to take the shelving out of the old trailer and put it into the new trailer all while having a program to run for our scouts.

On top of this we have several tents that have to have zippers repaired or be replaced.

This situation has taught the troop a lesson about the need for "saving for a rainy day".  We have been very happy in the past spending what we have on our scouts and ending the season with a few dollars in the bank to hold us over till the dues is collected and we have our first fundraiser. That worked for many years, but has to change, we need an emergency fund for major expenses.  So we will talk at a later date about fundraising, a big event or whatever, but for now we need funds to get us back on track.

The Troop Committee would like to ask for a donation of any amount you wish to make to "Troop 140" to be used to help the troop purchase the new trailer. We did already receive a very generous donation from present parents The Lewis Family, alumni  Andrew Zapcic and The Freda's. We hope you will remember your experience with the troop and feel the need to help our present group of scouts enjoy the scouting adventures.

We are looking forward to a great scouting season with the Troop 140 Family and our new troop trailer.
