Papillion "Boy Scouts' Cabin" Restoration Project
Tax deductible
A known historical monument in the heart of Papillion, stands the Boy Scouts' Cabin--a symbol of what is good in our highly regarded community since 1920. Home to Troop 60 (formerly known as Troop 1), one of the oldest active Boy Scout troops in the US, the cabin serves not only as a storage facility for Scout gear but also as a base for the annual Papillion Days celebration. During the holiday season, the cabin doubles as "Santa's Workshop".
The cabin is in need of dire repair to keep it structurally safe for both our Scouts and our community. We need YOUR help!
The cabin was built on limestone footings with stationary, retrofit concrete stoop. The sunken limestone footings require moving the cabin and pouring a foundation. The weight has bowed unsupported center sections of long walls thus resulting in complete replacement of the roof. The fireplace hearth and chimney are fixed in place and listing. The current plan is for an outside company to lift up the structure and move it, replace footings, and secure the chimney that is pulling away. Much of the restoration of the cabin roof, exterior, and interior will be conducted by Troop 60 and volunteer labor once building materials have been purchased.
Funds raised will go towards the full restoration and maintenance of the Boy Scout Cabin landmark for generations to come. All donations and participation of the "in kind" variety will be recognized. Thank you for your consideration and continued support!
