Hi
Im Damasco an independent filmmaker, and I’m pouring my heart into "Born Abroad" (Nacido en el Extranjero in its original language) a handcrafted animated short about identity, migration, nostalgia, and belonging
This project is 100% indie: no big studios, just raw creativity and the will power to make this proyect come to life. But animation takes time, love, and resources that’s where your help come in!
The Story
Katherine and Joshua, two Mexican-American siblings, watch their world comes falling down when their mother is deported. With no clear plan but a need to feel close to her, they begin an ambiguous journey through highways, motels, and blurred landscapes of the western and southern United States.
The trip is physical but mostly internal forces them to confront their fractured identity: neither from here nor there. Through layered visuals and fragmented sounds, the film asks what it means to belong when home is split.
Why Support This Film?
"This story is my story."
I’m a Mexican-American filmmaker who grew up torn between two countries, two cultures, and two versions of "home." Born Abroad isn’t just fiction,it’s a raw, personal reflection on what it means to leave behind the place you love, and the unspoken fears so many Latinx children of immigrants carry. This film is my way of healing through art and giving a voice to those who live in the in-between.
Unique Visual Style
This film's animation combines:
- ✂️ 2D Digital Cutout Animation - Giving life to characters with the slightly imperfect, textured feel of paper in motion
- ️ Mixed Media Collage - Incorporating distortions, Textures,Tactile Imperfections,Visible brush strokes, giving it a scrapbook feel
A Universal Story
While deeply personal, this is every immigrant’s truth: the grief of displacement, the resilience of love, and the quiet hope of reunion.
