In the past week, we have witnessed from afar our “Island of Enchantment” fall under the devastating winds and rain of Hurricane Maria.
Our social media pages are filled with pictures of what used to be areas of our childhood memories, while the statuses are cries of help from those who are still desperate to hear from loved ones. There are still areas of the island that have not been accessed because of fallen bridges or overflown rivers. However, the lucky few who have had the opportunity to communicate with their loved ones feel like those 30 seconds, or that one status update, is not enough.
As flights and ships are unable to enter the island, due to extreme devastation, we found asking ourselves “What can we do?” while many were asking us the same question.
So what can WE do? All of the money raised will go towards purchasing items that will be needed not only in the upcoming weeks, but upcoming months. These will include, batteries, flashlights, canned food, potable water, walkie-talkies, hygiene and first aid items, mosquito repellants, baby formula, among other necessities. The items will be shipped as soon as shipping companies and airplanes are allowed to enter the island; we also have contacts within the Federal Agencies ready to help! You will be notified as soon as we purchase, pack, ship and distribute the items to Lions Club in Manati, Puerto Rico (Registration #014409).
We are willing to help others, as refugees from other neighboring islands are also seeking help within our strong, resilient and passionate community, because as the “Despacito” song goes……”this is how we do it down in Puerto Rico!”. And now, we need YOUR help.
Thank you in advance for your support!
