Books for PICU

There is nothing as terrifying as watching your child, attached to machines, in intensive care. As a group of heart Mums, this is something we have all done at least once and for some of us, something we know we will have to do again! Sometimes you sit next to your baby for days, endless hours of fear. You can’t touch them other than to hold their hand or stroke their head. Often though they respond to the sound of your voice and the nurses encourage you to talk to them. But what do you say? How many times can you say ‘I love you’ before the emotion breaks you. We want to fill the silence that threatens to drown parents and provide the comfort of that much loved voice. We want to give each child that passes through PICU a book, well chosen words to fill the days and nights and take home as part of the journey.
