Once we reach our first goal, we will be going around NYC and giving out new athletic equipment and school supplies to kids in need. Also, please feel free to reach out to either of us if you can suggest a school, family, or individual that can use some help!

Books and Bats “Don’t believe us, just watch”

As some of you may know, Gabe Frabasile and I have been trying to live a #Health lifestyle to the best of our ability over the last couple of months. Yes, our goal at first was personal. We realized that the lifestyle we were living was not that of a healthy one. Personally, it was physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. I was lost and broken and not proud of the person looking back at me in the mirror. For Gabe, it meant to “be great,” and to actually do the things that he knows he is capable of doing. This includes becoming a better writer and thinker, a better runner, making connections with interesting people, and practicing his faith. Selfishly, this started off as a challenge between the two of us that we took to social media. Once we began to receive positive feedback on a daily basis, a switch went off in our heads. Not only could we motivate each other, but we could motivate others to live a healthy lifestyle and give back to the community that we care about so deeply. The slogan for us does not particularly focus on just the physical aspect of working out on a daily basis, but also focuses on the people you surround yourselves with, being proud of the person you are, your relationship with God, or simply, doing whatever makes you happy. We have come to find that by living this #Health lifestyle, our energy, our mood, our anxiety, our faith, our genuine happiness, has been on a rapid and constant incline. There truly is no better feeling than living a healthy lifestyle. We invite you to do the same.

On September 22nd, Gabe and I will be running a 5K race through NYC as a “start” to this journey, as well as donating $100 each to this cause. This will be the launch of our fundraiser, “Books and Bats.” The idea is still very fresh and has plenty of work to be done, but the backbone of our mission is concrete. Gabe and I have played baseball and sports together for almost half our lives. We believe that athletics and getting out and being #Health leads to an improved way of life. About a month ago when all of this came about, Gabe and I reminisced about our time at Fordham Prep, located in the Bronx, NY. We remember walking to practice and passing by street corners and rundown parks and witnessing underprivileged children doing all they could to just get out and play whatever sport it may be. At the time, we didn’t realize the struggle that these kids went through, probably because we were young and naive, but now, we want to make a difference. In addition to athletics, we can all agree that education is a crucial part of a child’s life, but many of these kids from the inner cities and other places alike are unable to gain access to proper school supplies (Books) and athletic equipment (Bats). Our first idea is to simply walk around the less fortunate areas of NYC and give back.

This is about all of us. Our goal is that we can all be on the same page and challenge each other to do great things. That’s what the videos have been about- you challenge me, I challenge you, and we relish in each other’s success. How amazing would it be if each time we all did something positive in our lives, we donated a dollar or two to Books and Bats. #It’sForTheKids

We are going to assume that everyone reading this agrees that every child deserves the right to a proper education and the opportunity of excelling in sports if that’s what he or she decides. Sports is so much more than just a game. It is a way of life that has steered ourselves and many others down the right path. Sports has introduced us to lifelong friends and influential mentors, and it has molded us into the men we are today. Also, it is a fact, that a positive focus on education will make one’s life better. Many of us have been lucky and blessed to grow up with proper schooling and the opportunity to play sports. These kids deserve the exact same thing. So let’s do this for the kids and make a difference. #Health #BeGreat #BooksandBats
