Bonnets for Buddies

Welcome to the “Bonnets for Buddies” page! We are honored to have your support & friendship!

The idea for the project was inspired by Abigail, a two-year-old pit bull mix once used as a bait dog in a Miami dog fighting ring. Abigail suffered life threatening injuries and ultimately lost her right ear. During one of the first few days of Abigail’s recovery, her hero/rescuer, Victoria Frazier with Love is Fur Ever Dog Rescue, started putting “bonnets” over Abigail’s head bandages to dress them up. It was the start of something beautiful and Abigail’s story would soon capture the hearts of people all around the world.

Today, Abigail is 100% healed & healthy. Her bonnets have become her symbol, but they also stand for something much greater. Abigail’s bonnets stand for love, kindness & forgiveness. She is showing the world that different is beautiful. The bonnets also stand for much needed change - to end dog fighting, that one day there will be stricter punishments for those monsters who commit horrible acts on animals and that one day the negative stigma surrounding pit bulls will change in a positive way. Abigail has the ultimate Cinderella story. She is a survivor with the kindest, most gentle soul.

Now, we want to continue the mission Abigail’s heroes started for her. As you read above, Abigail's bonnets were a huge part of her recovery after living a life of absolute hell at the hands of horrible monsters. We now want to welcome more pups to the "bonnet movement" and help with their recovery and future. This is the “Bonnets for Buddies” project! On this page, we will share the stories & pictures of the dogs who are receiving bonnets.

What is the “Bonnets for Buddies” project?
Upon request, we will have bonnets made for pups with head injuries and/or missing ears. We have a style for both boy & girl doggies. Shara Valerio- Ballwith itsi bitsi essentials makes the bonnets each time a request comes in as well as some volunteers who love to sew. Every order will be custom-made for the dog. To make us aware about a pup in need of bonnets, you can send us a private message on Facebook "Bonnets for Buddies." Please include a picture of the injured pup/s, their name/s, where they are located, who they are with, the pups head measurement, the pups story (if you know it) and an address to send the bonnets too. Every package that gets sent out will include a signed letter from Abigail (her paw print). All we ask for in return is a picture of the pup with his/her bonnet/s on.

The bonnets are free for the pups, but you can donate here.  All of the proceeds will go to buying fabric and shipping the bonnets.
