Bob Vassar Donation Fund

Donation protected
A community today is a group of people connected by something in common. Years ago a community had to live near each other to be connected. Today we can live all around the globe and still be a community when united by a common bond. There is a large community of people who know and care about Bob, Darce and Katie Vassar.

Bob was recently diagnosed with a large brain tumor. (See below for more.) Family and friends have surrounded Bob and his family over the past weeks and months as he underwent brain surgery and completed his first round of chemotherapy and radiation treatments. A beautiful community has surrounded them – prayers, bringing food, taking Bob to doctor appointments, shoveling the driveway – doing anything we can to support. The Vassars have been showered with love and support in so many ways.

But, so many of us in this community want to do more – we want to help! Now the Vassars find themselves facing an unknown financial future.

We are a community that helps each other – we have a common bond and that is our love for Bob, Darce and Katie. Thank you for helping ease their burdens by donating today. The Vassars are so touched and enormously grateful for your love and support during this time.

Here's Bob’s story, as he posted on Facebook on January 16:

Four weeks ago I was diagnosed with a large brain tumor (glioblastoma -multiform)—it was herniating at the time I went in for my MRI… I was able to have surgery within an hour and as much of the tumor as possible was removed. As of yesterday, I have embarked on an aggressive chemo/radiation treatment plan to remove as much of the cancer out of my body and control the tumor as possible!

I am very happy with the care I am receiving from the Docs and staff at SJRMC. My Oncologist, Dr. Clinton Morgan and his wife, school board member Alexis Morgan were one of Darce’s finds when she was still recruiting for SJRMC…I don’t think Tennessee will be able to recruit the Docs and spouses like she did (just saying)! I have so much to be thankful for…my two girls have been so supportive and taken such good care of me.

My brothers Dick and John have been giving me rides just like the old days…the things I learned 50 years ago riding in the backseat of the that Monza Corvair on their dates to the Frost-Top and drive- in movies!! I am looking forward to Saturday when my sister Susan Kathleen arrives …vegan and smoothie recipes to come! My brother Mike is going to fly over on the 27th and my brother Bill will come over from Pomeroy and there are plans for a sibling picture…maybe we should recreate the one below! That is all for now. There is nothing more important than prayers…hugs… and I love you’s!

Thank you for all of the prayers and support from near and far. We appreciate each and every moment you’ve shared with us.
