Blessings, Blues, and Brews IV

We are involved in an organization at Knox College called Blessings in a Backpack. The Blessings in a Backpack program provides weekend food for children to improve their lives, help them succeed in school, and give them hope. Through the work of college and community volunteers, 420 students at our community’s five elementary schools are provided with essential food to take home for the weekend. The bags include: soup, oatmeal, granola bars, raisins, crackers, and apples. The apples are donated by Knox students every week. For some elementary school children, this is the only food they will have for the weekend. Every week, 40-60 Knox students meet at First Presbyterian Church in Galesburg to pack the bags with food. All of this couldn't be done without the generosity of the Galesburg community, volunteers, and donors!
In order to buy the food, the organization raises over $39,000 annually to meet its operational goals. We raise funds through bake sales, community activities, college events, and private donations. Every year we hold a spring fundraiser called Blessings, Blues, and Brews (BBB IV) at a local restaurant/brewery. The event, attended by 400 community members and college students, consists of jazz music, karaoke, drawings, and a charity auction. Last year we raised over $25,000. Creative approaches like this have allowed us to grow from feeding only 42 children in 2012 to our current outreach of 420 kids this school year.
We are reaching out to people who care for the nutrition and well-being of America’s children. Would you be willing to donate in lieu of attendance to the BBB IV event on May 8, 2019? Any donation is extremely appreciated and 100% of the funds raised will go towards feeding kids in the Galesburg community. The goal of $2,000 would feed 20 kids for an entire school year.
