Black Girls Surf Fundraiser

For over 4 years, our award-winning 501 c 3 non-profit organization, Black Girls Surf has been able to fund female surfers from Hawaii to Africa. Our success was only possible through the generosity of donors around the world. We are grateful to all who continue to contribute. Senegalese surfer, Khadjou Sambe was able to achieve her goal of training in California. Since 2018, Black Girls Surf has supported over 400 girls internationally.

Like Khadjou, BGS afforded girls the opportunity to travel for a year training at a variety of world-class surf breaks. Media exposure was also included. It was through Khadjou’s training debut that we realized the vast amount of female surfers throughout the diaspora who wish to surf professionally without having access or knowing how to begin their journey. We also realized that the financial aspect of this endeavor was quite costly. The fluctuation in gas prices, hotels, and rental car expenditures was an unexpected surprise to all of us. Still, we pressed on. We achieved more in 365 days than we expected and made new friends all over the world. But we still have more to do.

Several pro surfers, including but limited to Keala Kennelly, Luke Stedman, and Brett Simpson have graciously lent their support in our efforts. We are eternally grateful to all of the pro surfers, filmmakers, media outlets and school campuses for their support. Pro surfer, Luke Stedman’s, Smile High Club generous offer to train our LA chapter was definitely Ione of the highlights. Still, there is more to come. BGS has been requested by numerous countries in need of support for their athletes. Just to name few, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Cote D’Ivoire, Liberia, Nigeria, South Africa and Costa Rica been in contact for help with resources. Coach Rho has donated her monthly military pension for over a year but it was not enough. This is why we come to you, our potential donors to ask for your assistance in keeping Black Girls Surf up & riding.

We need:

1. We travel 90% of the time. Converting a van into a sleeper would cut down on the costs of rentals, lodging and buying food.
These are our main expenditures. A donated van in need of repair will work for us as well.

*We have a RV now. It's currently in the shop for repairs. Thank you!

2. Surfboards - Surfboard sponsors are needed. Performance boards for competitions especially needed.

*A huge thank you to Critters Toy Co. for the 13 surfboards donated. The girls love them and the boys are jealous ;)

3. Wetsuits - Hurley sponsored

4. Leashes - WE NEED LEASHES!

5. Deck Pads - WE NEED DECK PADS

6. Fins - WE NEED FINS

*`FCS &N FUTURE fins needed

7. Wax - A variety of warm, tropical and cold water.

8. Fees for contest registration

9. Travel airfare - This is for contests and training.

10. Housing - We use our San Jose studio to temporarily house incoming surfers. Overseas we find local community members or Air B&B for housing. Your generosity is certainly appreciated. Please consider donating today to keep BGS going for the next generation of pro surfers.

Thank you,

Black Girls Surf
