Send a Boy to Camp!!

Dear friends and family,
I know that I am so very fortunate to have a job that I love and amazing students I get to work with here in Portland. I have been able to teach some incredible young students. Over 30% of our student population has come to our country to escape civil war and seek asylum in America. The stories they can tell you about the atrocities of war would break your heart. I wish you could hear the words they say as they are at open mic about the land they left behind as they try to negotiate life as an American boy.
This year the students who are hoping to go to camp have both had incredible losses in their families. One boy has lost both parents and lives with an aunt who works all day. The other young man lost his mother and he and his father live in a small apartment on the outskirts of the city. He really cannot do much in the summer as he is so far from his friends and his father also works all the time. Both boys live in extreme poverty but are proud and know the only way out is to work hard and learn all they can learn. These two young men were recommended by their teachers because they live the Birch Rock motto... "Help the other Fellow"
Through some creative fundraising and generous support I have been able to send 2 boys to camp for the last 3 summers. Just good old fashioned summer camp, the very one I sent my son to when he was their age...Birch Rock Camp for Boys. They were changed by the experience and I promised them I would do everything I could to continue to provide this experience to other students.
I am am asking all my friends to consider a small pledge to help me keep good on my promise...I promise you these are some great kids with so much to give back. Any amount would help.... Thank you so much.
