Billie’s Battle for Boobs

On Monday, March 2nd, 2020 it was confirmed, the call came in that our Mom, Billie has breast cancer. The type she has is called Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. On March 17, we received the news that it was estrogen and HER2 positive and Grade 2A, meaning it's aggressive. March 18th confirmed that a 2nd lump that was detected was positive as well.  Friday, April 3, 2020 our mother began her journey to fight this battle. Chemotherapy infusions take place every 3 weeks for 6 cycles. Her infusions consist of 4 medications 2 chemotherapy drugs called taxotere & carboplatinum. As well as 2 monoclonal antibodies called kanjinti & perjeta. After the 6 cycles of chemotherapy, she will continue to infuse the 2 monoclonal antibodies for the remaining 1 year cycle.  She will see her surgeon in July for surgical intervention of mastectomy. After the healing process, she will then begin radiation. During these first few months, she has continued a strong fight, still trying to work at the hospital when she is physically able, even during this Covid 19 pandemic. The side effects are beginning to increase, and we know the time is coming where her ability to work is decreasing.  She is blessed with great insurance, however daily living expenses as well as trips back and forth to treatment are adding up. Her husband is helping her daily, and this limits his ability to work as well.


Billie is a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many. To several others, you know her as a kind tender-hearted nurse from our local Sturgis Hospital. She has literally dedicated her life to helping other people from all walks of life by bringing kindness, warmth, comfort and care during their times of need. It’s our turn to support her in her time of need.


This is a CALL TO ACTION for anyone who has felt Billie’s warmth and kindness by being her friend, classmate, coworker or family member. ANY support is appreciated.  She would never ask others for help. We as her children are stepping up and speaking out.
