Spende geschützt
On October 6, my brother George Szczerba suffered a catastrophic injury when he fell, broke his femur, and reinjured his previously broken hip. One massively complex surgery and many plates, rods, and screws later, he has just now been admitted to a rehab facility after nearly a month in the hospital. His recovery has been hard, very painful, and slow, in part due to his need for a double knee replacement and his size. At 6’7” and 300+ pounds, he is larger than life - a giant of a man, both literally and figuratively - and we are lucky to still have him.
In 1974, George became a volunteer fireman with the Port Chester (NY) Fire Department, ultimately ascending to the role of Chief. He is a retired first responder who served his community for decades. George is the one who gave help to others and never asked for anything in return. Now George and Dawn, his wife of 34 years, need our support.
At 73 years young, his body has betrayed him. George is and has been physically unable to work for years. They live modestly on Dawn’s income and quite simply do not have the funds necessary to make their house handicap-friendly. George will be unable to return home until handicap accessible changes are made, especially to the stairs to enter their home and their one and only bathroom. That’s where we come in.
George is worried beyond what my words can convey. My family and I respectfully ask for your support to help with these modifications which must be completed before he can even hope to go home. Since his accident, he’s been focused on healing so that he’ll be strong enough to start his physical rehabilitation. He still has a very long way to go. Your support will do wonders toward alleviating the anguish he and Dawn feel so that George can focus on his recovery.
I understand times are tough for many and a donation may not be possible. But if you are able, any dollar amount will help offset what are sure to be significant costs. Please include George in your prayers and consider sharing this Go Fund Me to spread the word that my brother – a charismatic, funny, kind, loving, and sometimes ornery guy – needs you.
Thank you, sincerely, for any help you can provide.
