The Benches for Bradley project needs your help ! Our goal is to get our benches on the ground in the community by Earth Day, April 22, 2016. $1,500 is needed to cover the cost of our 10 benches and transportation service.
After losing Frankfort High School Junior Bradley Camic to an unexpected illness, students and parents of the Frankfort Independent School system worked to turn a school recycling project into a lasting remembrance of Bradley.
Bradley died on September 2, after he was placed in a medically-induced coma for nearly a month after suffering several seizures and collapsing at soccer practice.
Our initial goal was to collect 800 pounds of plastic caps for recycling into two benches at Green Tree Plastics in Indiana by Earth Day. However, when the project exploded with ‘tons’ of community participation we continued the ‘collective’ effort resulting in 4,000 pounds of plastic caps for making 10 benches that will be placed throughout our loving community. Two of these benches will memorialize D’Noymar “Denom” Russell, a Frankfort High Freshman who passed away on December 26, 2014.
The benches will be engraved by the Franklin County Career and Technical Center (FCCTC) students and placed at the following locations: Frankfort High School, Second Street Elementary School, Western Hills High School, Franklin County High School, FCCTC, Frankfort Independent School District Office, Sower Soccer Complex, and the home of Bradley’s mother, Julie Camic.
Special thanks to all of the kids, families, offices, and businesses who saved their plastic caps and to the many volunteers who participated in sorting through the sea of caps to ready them for shipping. Help us bring our benches home; donate today!
